About Me
Hi, I’m Michelle Barrett, a Certified Public Accountant with more than 25 years of experience. I started B to Z Accounting Solutions because I enjoy helping individuals and small businesses get organized, stay compliant, and feel confident about their finances without the stress that often comes with managing accounting on your own.
I became a CPA in 1998 and spent over two decades at Jackson Thornton & Co., P.C., where I grew from an intern to Manager. During that time, I supervised and reviewed corporate income tax returns, prepared tax projections and accruals, maintained fixed asset schedules, worked directly with the IRS and state agencies, and trained new staff on accounting software. Those years shaped my approach: thorough, practical, and focused on accuracy.
Since 2017, I’ve also worked as an accountant for AEGIS-Michaud Properties. My work there has included daily cash functions, reconciliations, payroll, financial reporting, and rental management accounting. My experience with real estate and small business operations has strengthened my ability to support clients with both detailed bookkeeping and broader financial oversight.
I’ve also served in leadership roles at Sylvan Learning Center of Montgomery and River Region Academy, where I managed revenue tracking, payroll, accounts receivable, staff scheduling, and administrative operations. These roles expanded my understanding of how small organizations function day-to-day.
Today, through B to Z Accounting Solutions, I offer a focused range of services that reflect both my experience and my philosophy: practical, reliable accounting without unnecessary complexity. The name “B to Z” comes from my last name, Barrett, and also represents the scope of services I intentionally offer. I don’t provide audits or compilations, but I focus on the areas that matter most to individuals and small businesses.

I am proficient in QuickBooks, ProSystem fx, Caseware, Propertyware, and a variety of accounting and management software. I’ve always been someone who learns new systems quickly, which helps me adapt to whatever tools my clients use.
I’m a lifelong Alabama resident and a graduate of Huntingdon College. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, helping others, and finding straightforward solutions to complicated problems, a skill that naturally steered me toward accounting.
